Vikings SM City Marikina | The 4th of July Menu Specials

It can be a bit overwhelming to step in a buffet restaurant such as Vikings Luxury Buffet. Their extensive offerings can lead to indecisions sometimes on what to eat. Well this month of July, let happyfoodies offer some delightful suggestions. Through the cool guys from PinasMuna, I got the chance to sample their new offerings as celebration of America’s 4th of July. Starting on the said date and throughout the month, you can see these new dishes on different buffet stations, particularly in the Vikings SM City Marikina branch.

Appetizers

The delectably garnished Beer Battered Chicken with Honey Mustard Tortilla Wrap is a very light starter. The deep fried chicken meat was tender and the moderate honey mustard flavor naturally comes out with hints of mango teasing in. It’s a simple dish, nothing fancy to start our meal course.

American Dream Maki

We got the American Dream Maki set with Philadelphia, New York and Alaska Maki set on a plate. I would suggest the said sequence as the Philadelphia Maki has a creamy and whole flavor from its cream cheese, the New York Maki has an interesting play on texture with the crunchy green colored tempura flakes on top while the Alaska Maki has that spicy flavor that can be a little overwhelming, but if you like the spicy kick, its very good as well.

Vikings Farmers Salad

Salad

We got the Farmer’s Salad with the usual green leafy vegetable mixed with corn, thousand island dressing with slices of orange on the side. Bits of ham added for that American twist. Despite the meat content, I still found it very light and clean.

Alaskan Salmon Chowder

Soup

The Alaskan Salmon Chowder soup is when it starts to get a little heavy because of the pureed potato base with a little white wine and morsels of Salmon. I like the texture and the smooth clean taste of Salmon in this soup.

Main Courses

We continue with our main course of Pan-Seared Salmon sitting on a Wild Mushroom Fettuccini with Sun Dried Tomato and Bearnaise Sauce on the side. Another surprisingly pleasant dish with the simply marinated salmon having a lightly salted flavor that floats lightly on the palette. It really goes well with the moderately flavored fettucini, even good without the optional bearnaise sauce on the side.

Lemon Sorbet

We had to reset our taste buds with a small glass of lime sherbet to prepare for the courses ahead.

Country Style Smoked Peppered Pork Ribs

The Country Style Smoked Peppered Pork Ribs with Green Beans with Caramelized Onions was our second main course. The rich brown glazed meat may not be fall-off-the-bone tender but it is something I could forgive since the sharp and distinct smokey caramelized flavor was just too good. The french beans on the side was also crunchy.

Chuck Eye Roll with Cream of Pepper Sauce

Last but not the least, meat lovers would feast with the Chuck Eye Roll with Cream of Pepper Sauce. On the side are the American Cajun Potato Wedges and Grilled Corn on Cub. Now this what I call American goodness. The steak was so good, tender, juicy and brimming with goodness from its natural spices clinging on the meat. While the pepper sauce its there, its good on its own. The shoe string potatoes on top do add a flavorful texture to the meat. I love wedges and these Cajun wedges is one of the best I’ve tasted, perfectly fried with skin and just the right saltiness. Oh don’t ignore the grilled corn, it must be the butter after the grill as the after taste lingers so well.

Pastry Dessert

Surprising after all the main courses were served, I didn’t have that unpleasant heaviness or being bloated that there’s still good room for dessert. For pastry we have the New York Cheese Cake, Seattle Coffee Walnut Cake and Choco Banana Mousse. I like that all of them are not too sweet
