711 Chef Creations: Claude Tayag’s Sumptous Food-to-go

I’ve always regarded convenience store food as a quick-fix for sudden hunger pangs. They are not bad nor exceptional either, just something to fill up the tummy. 7-Eleven though is set to change how people look at ready-to-eat meals with their introduction of 711 Chef Creations. Three variants of Pinoy food favorites, with the stamp of approval from renowned Chef Claude Tayag of the famed Bale Dutung, will be widely available to 7-Eleven stores by May.

It really got my attention when I heard the news that Claude Tayag would make ready-to-eat meals for 7-Eleven. What would the dishes be? Would it still have the same quality with the food he makes? Happyfoodies is a fan of husband and wife tandem Claude and Mary Ann of Bale Dutung that we wrote about them twice already here and here. Happyfoodies is privileged to have a preview of the three 711 Chef Creations. Claude did assure us that he handpicked the ingredients, studied immensely the ways to make these meals nutritious and balanced without sacrificing the taste.

First served was the Pulled Pork with Adobo Dip (Php 95). The packaging looks premium and it was easy to peel off the cover. There’s a distinct aroma in the air as well. The morsels of pork meat was tender and tasty on its own but the added dipped heightened the flavor. The adobo was simply good!

The Pork Sinigang sa Kamias (Php 75) already have its broth mixed in. The serving was hefty with good portion of tender meat. There were some inconsistencies on how the potato were cooked but the tangy kamias broth was really really tasty. The gabi and kangkong tasted fresh too.

Lastly we tried the Pakbet with Bagnet (Php 89). The sautéed vegetables with alamang (shrimp paste) also taste fresh and had the right crunch. the bagnet strips were tender and  savoury but I kinda missed the crispiness there. For its price though its a great value.

Among the three my favorite was the Pork Sinigang sa Kamias then the Pulled Pork with Adobo Dip. Can’t wait to try them again once they are released. 711 Chef Creations will be available this coming May 7 2014.
