Bohol Eats | Baclayon Heritage Cafe

It still breaks my heart seeing the actual rubbles of Bohol’s heritage churches when after a year the island experienced a devastating earthquake. The church from one of my favorite haunts, Baclayon was not spared. I remember frequenting the Baluarte right across the church for some afternoon sea breeze, sunset and cheap but good barbecue stalls. Is also a delight to see a newly opened cafe, Baclayon Heritage Café. So timely I was yearning for a good hot drink and snack that afternoon so I got to try the place.

Community Cafe

I’m no stranger to the home of Baclayon Heritage Cafe that just opened in November 2014. It used to fully house the municipality tourist office. Now, the municipality houses the cafe for free alongside the tourist center. This way the local community can showcase its products while catering to tourist at the same time.

I was deciding whether to order coffee or their Sikwate, a local hot chocolate. The latter won me over as I know how good the chocolate here in Bohol is. For only Php 30 for the drink it didn’t disappoint. It was one rich cup of thick tsokolate. They had a handful of sandwiches on the menu but what was readily available at that time was the Beef Tapa with Egg Sandwich. For only Php 50, it was served on a wheat bun and very presentable plating. It taste good as it looks.

What I really like about the Baclayon Heritage Cafe is the ambiance. Aside from the very native and cozy interior, the cafe opens up to a wonderful view of the baluarte. Spend the afternoon watching the going-ons of the community hanging out by the pier as the sun goes down on the sea horizon.
