I’m glad an old favorite cafe returned. Coffee 8065, a cafe owned by the same people behind 8065 Bagnet re-opened early this year in a new location within San Antonio Village in Makati. Moving from their former home, on the 2nd floor of an old building along Estrella corner Pasong Tamo, their new home is more accessible being on the streetside. A bambike (bamboo bike) holds their signature sign parked just in front of their entrance. From outside, it looks like one of the houses in the neighborhood; inside is the familiar cozy ambiance with a very homey vibe.
Same Old Coffee 8065
There’s the cute paper cups fondly drawn with loony faces on the wall, a shelf with a toy collection, a small library of books, artworks on the wall, doodled tables, a tree drawn on a column post and some easy acoustic to lounge music in play. Yes, the same vibe, just a different location. A place where small groups can enjoy catching up or lone diners can study, have some personal space or simply connect to the online world via their free Wifi.
We came here for the coffee and was surprised they offer Unlimited Brewed coffee for P65. Quite a good deal as the quality was never watered down — rich and strong flavored coffee brewed to your liking. I did try their Nutty Caramel Macchiato for P110 in a large cup with wonderful latte art. It is as it says, nutty with caramel although a bit too sweet for my taste but for its price it’s quite comparable with those from the popular cafe chains. Anyway, next time I can always request the barista to tame down the sugar.
There are desserts and pasta dishes on the menu, too. We just had lunch so dessert was in our minds. A piece of silvana and a chocolate cupcake appealed to our tastes. The silvana was okay, could be crispier and richer in butter flavor but the cupcake was soft, with just the right chocolatey sweetness. What’s good is that it’s not that expensive.
It’s nice to see Coffee 8065 open again. While I like chain cafes like Starbucks or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, there’s this sense of satisfaction supporting these small and local cafes. They have a distinct character and vibe that really appeal to me.
