The first time I tasted the signature Gringo flame-grilled dishes, the Original Chicken, Southern Spice and Baby Back Ribs, I knew their distinct char-broiled goodness would become a local favorite. Together with their sauces, Lemon Herb and Hot and Spicy, and the sumptuous sidings, Gringo offers great value for their Mexican-Latin cuisine offering. From their first branch at SM North Edsa, they have since expanded to the Fort, Makati and now the newly opened branch at The Atrium, SM Megamall. The recent soft opening gave happyfoodies a chance to sample the other goodies in their menu.
Lemons Garlic Butter Crab and Burritos
The Southern Spice has always been a favorite whenever I dine in at Gringo. On the sides, my regulars are either the garlic mushrooms, roasted eggplant and/or mexican rice. This time, I wanted to try their burrito being a Mexican restaurant. I had the Slow Cooked Beef and it didn’t disappoint. The beef was really tender and savory, the rice soft and moist and the other fillings add to the flavor.
There’s also the huge Lemon Garlic Butter Crab. The staff informed us of the available crab weights. They had already half cracked the shell so it would be easy to get the crab meat. I enjoyed picking through the pincer shells for the meat as it was really tasty. There were also the crunchy garlic bits I enjoyed munching on.
Gringo Desserts
There are only two choices for the dessert and I think they are very Filipino. The Queso Sorbetes is your typical cheese ice cream in two scoops. The winner for me was the Mango Cream Sticky Rice, it is sticky rice with ripe mango strips and topped with sorbetes and sago. A nice cool fruity dessert without being too sweet.
Be sure to check out the new branch of Gringo at SM Megamall or their other branches. Dining at their warm and cozy industrial-inspired interiors is also a pleasure.
