Kafe Panglima Dua Lima Good Old Town Ipoh Coffee

Post a Comment November 20, 2018

The old town of Ipoh is known as one of Malaysia’s best coffee producers. The “Old Town” coffee brand is a popular present for visitors coming from Malaysia. It is one of my favorite instant coffee due to its sharp strong yet rich flavor. Recently, I found myself back in Ipoh for a fam tour. While strolling through one of the famed concubine lanes in Ipoh, we chanced upon Panglima Dua Lima. A charming little cafe housed in an old shophouse serving freshly prepared Ipoh white coffee.

Kafe Panglima Dua Lima

The cafe is simply named Kafe Panglima Dua Lima or Panglima 25 Cafe, twenty-five as their street number along Jalan Panglima now known as Concubine Lane. This narrow street is one of the three lanes given to each of the mining tycoons, Yao Tet Shin’s wife, and concubines. Jalan Panglima is the first Concubine lane. Each lane would have shops and stalls and the concubine could collect rents from shops here as their own money.

The cafe has a very attractive interiors. Making use of the old wall, wooden furnishing, and shelves of books. The lighting was really warm and cozy and had an old-world feel to it. Upon entering I knew this is one of those cafes I could spend hours in.

Ipoh White Coffee

The instant 3–in–1 Ipoh White Coffee is easy to get having many brands available in the market. But since I’m already in Ipoh, I wanted to try something fresh and authentic. I’m glad we stumbled upon Kafe Panglima Dua Lima which offers freshly prepared Ipoh White Coffee. Malaysia’s Ipoh White is basically having either cream or milk, margarine, and sugar when prepared with freshly ground beans. The Ipoh White “O” variety doesn’t have sugar. Panglima Dua Lima makes it a little different as the manager at that time explains. They make sure they have a good concentration of boiled coffee to make it stronger and richer. And boy was it so good and smooth. Almost chocolatey even but still has that nice bitterness to it.

The cafe had other food items for sale but I’m so satisfied with their coffee. This is the real Ipoh White Coffee I was looking for. And I made sure I take some home with me by buying a bag of ground beans.
