Fresh Greens and Soothing Views at Um-A Farm and Restaurant in Tuba Benguet

Post a Comment August 08, 2024

From the same people who brought you Health 100 Restaurant in Baguio City comes Um-A Farm and Restaurant in Tuba, Benguet. Couple entrepreneurs Elmer and Dr. Celestrelle Macalingay have elevated the experience of healthy dining at Um-A Farm and Restaurant, offering eclectic restaurant interiors with an unobstructed view of one of the last remaining forest reserves in Tuba, Benguet.

Um-A Farm native design interiors.

Um-A Farm

"Um-A" is an Itneg (Cordilleran dialect) word meaning "upland farm". Elmer wanted to bring a farm-to-table experience to Um-A, using only the freshest produce served directly from the farm to the table. Most of the ingredients are sourced from their own and nearby farm suppliers. Customers may also pick and harvest from the farm themselves for their meals.

Um-A Greens

Vegetarian Meals

We enjoyed trying some healthy meal offerings at Um-A, starting with the all-time favorite Um-A Greens, a salad with freshly harvested greens from the farm. The greens include uncommon ingredients like katuday (corkwood tree flowers), kamaulaw (Mexican sunflower leaves), and aratiles (bird's cherry). The salad dressing was a blend of sweet honey with a slight tang and a tinge of spice.

Ugso or Bagbag

We were also served Ugso or Bagbag patties made from ubud (young meat from coconut trees), which are also used for their burgers.

Sundried Tomato pasta

There's also the flavorful Sundried Tomato pasta and filling Indian samosas, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Nourishing Meats

Meat eaters are not left behind. While Um-A may serve some mock-meat meals like their Sisig in Health 100, they also serve real meat, except pork. There's the grilled fish and their version of KBL (Kardis, Baka, Langka).

Turon con Langka

Coffee and Dessert

We capped our hearty meal with their satiating Café Latte and delightful Turon con Langka. A pair I thoroughly savored while gazing at the mountains and sky. It was truly a wondrous experience to be this close to nature and enjoy meals still filled with energy as they were derived from the Earth.
