I have only a few expectations when it comes to airport food. But lately, some good restaurants have located their branches in terminals making people in transit like us have better choices when it comes to food. When we arrived in Changi Airport in Singapore, the group ate at Pasta de Waraku, a Casual Japanese Pasta and Cafe Restaurant. Waraku in Japanese means “Peace and Harmony” and seeing the warm interiors, nicely-decorated walls filled up with patterns of their plated dishes and a welcoming staff, I was already looking forward to enjoy their meals.

What happens if a young surfer couple decides to build a resort, stumble upon this beautiful spot in the middle of nowhere at Maira-ira Cove, constructs a tastefully east-meets-west design edifice, serve food with ingredients freshly picked from their garden and then regale you with stories in upbeat fashion? That’s Kapuluan Vista Resort for you. We drove hours under the stormy weather during the Lakbay Norte 2 and was glad to find this warm and comfortable place for the night just in time for dinner.
PAGASA declared a wet summer and the often fickle weather presently prevailing is living up to that paradox. But climate change or not, what’s summer without warm days sweetened by dollops of ice cream? Well, you know it’s going to be an interesting summer when Selecta comes up with not one but four new chocolate flavors.
It’s hard not to love Haagen Dazs. The texture is always creamy, smooth and velvety. The flavors are real and faithful to the fruits that inspired them. And what they say is true – the ice cream’s consistency is dense and full-bodied, not full of air, even when melted. True, the price is very premium but the quality you get is incomparable. We got invited to another Haagen Dazs event (always a welcome thought for any foodie) and got to try more flavors.
While it was raining in the Metro over the weekend, your happyfoodies were following the hiking and food trail to the northeastern part of Luzon. One of our stops on the way home was Cabanatuan, and at the suggestion of a friend, we made a stopover at Puno’s Ice Cream and Sherbet to cool off the increasingly hot day. Our friend says it’s a must-visit place and we were just happy to oblige.
The fickle weather hints at the onset of the rainy season but every once in a while, the sun emerges from the clouds and the weather turns sunny and hot. Make that uncomfortably, very humid, hot. Seems to us that summer is still here and holding. What a time for happyfoodies to be given an opportunity to sample Haagen-Dazs’ nutty creations.
We were offered three preparations to sample (many thanks to Haagen-Dazs Philippines and especially the SM Megamall crew) – the Macadamia Nut Delight, Hawaiian Macadamia Crunch, and the Macadamia Nut Cake. Imagine the velvety, creamy goodness that Haagen-Dazs is known for. Mix it with Macadamia nuts. Voila, you have the perfect recipe for going nuts.
